Preventing and Restoring High Traffic Areas on your Floors

Some areas of the house get WAY more foot traffic than others. Doorways, entryways, kitchens and floors leading to back doors and garage doors start to get worn down if not treated properly. After-all, hardwood floors are a precious part of a home’s ambiance and are beautiful when well maintained.
If your floors are NEW than you need to take these preventative steps to maintain the shine and consistency of your floors:
- Invest in rugs or runners for high traffic areas but remember to by rug mats, too. (Some rugs can discolor the floors without these mats.)
- Remove shoes at the door. (Seems annoying but it will save you time cleaning and restoring!)
- Avoid walking on the floors in heels, cleats or any show that will scratch the floors. (Save those for the carpets or when you step out the door.)
If your floors are older and need some restoring, it’s important to clean and restore your hardwood floor to avoid any future permanent damage, especially when there is high traffic. Follow these steps IN ADDITION to the above steps.
- Hire a company to restore or purchase a restoring products and do it yourself. (These products usually extend the life of wood floors.)
- Clean floors regularly to remove dirt and grit from between the floor boards. Avoid using a wet mop which can dull the finish.
