Measuring Advice
When doing room measurement with rugs, keep in mind your floor vents so that your rug isn’t blocking your air circulation.
Fire Hazard
With a wood-burning fireplace it’s important to consider that fire sparks can ruin your carpet, vinyl and wood floor coverings. It can also be a fire hazard. Install a well-designed fireplace screen, and use a flame-retardant throw rug in the area near the fireplace.
Pets
Some rugs are not great to have around animals because pet claws and collars can get stuck in them. Ask us about the best flooring to accommodate your pets. Choosing dark palettes or patterns can conceal pet stains.
Dust Mites
For those who are environmentally conscious, consider coconut husk floor coverings, which have an all-natural dust mite repellent in the form of tannins. Coconut husks also take in moisture from the air and release it when the humidity drops, which can equalize the environment in your home.
Rotate!
Rotate your area rug annually to minimize any damage and also to extend its longevity. In areas with a lot of traffic, rotate your rug every six months.
Having a warm floor when stepping out of the shower is essential. Picking the right floor is therefore critical. If you select something thin such as tile or vinyl, you should purchase some area rugs that are water-resistant, just to make up for that lost warmth. You might place these in front of the mirror, shower, or toilet.
The flooring that you choose needs to be water-resistant, whether it’s carpet, tile or vinyl. In addition to water-resistance, it’s important to have stain-resistant material. With soap residue, shaving cream, and any other accidental material, stain resistance is important. Regardless of your flooring choice, a good-looking and stain-resistant area rug can save yourself from numerous headaches. The flooring color shouldn’t stand out, and make sure the stains don’t either!
Many people put in their floorboards lengthwise, primarily for reasons concerning looks. When you are considering which be sure to run it perpendicular to your joist. This will prevent long-term warping of the floor and ensure its strength.
Prior to floor installation, inspect the surface below. If you don’t have a level subfloor then you can end up with your floor squeaking. Not to mention, it can be quite a pain to walk on!
Floating floors aren’t expensive and their installation is easy. They don’t require any adhesives or nails of any kind. They’re also a great choice if your subfloor has asbestos. The floating floors can be installed right on top of the subfloor without any need to pay a professional to remove the asbestos.
It is hard to expect what will happen with your stain. Prior to staining the entire floor, test the stain on a sample piece of wood to decide what color works best for you.
Stains are not protective in the long run. Applying a top layer of protective coating or polyurethane will provide strength and durability to your floor.
A floating hardwood floor is simply a type of hardwood floor that is installed without securing it to the floor below it. Floating hardwoods are a specially designed and manufactured wood, with wood pieces glued together in order to have a stable floor. This way of design ensures that it can be installed on different types of surfaces. Engineered wood such as this is made it various different colors and widths.
Hardwood floors can be floated in several arrangements, and these depend on the type of groove and tongue. If the floor has a traditional tongue and groove, then the wood can be floated by inserting a bead of glue in the groove and then placing in the tongue of the next board. While glue is required, it’s only to adhere the boards together and not to the subfloor surface below it. Other types of hardwood floating floors have a locking device in lieu of a tongue and groove, which means that no glue is involved. Despite whatever floor is installed you need an underlayment to be installed over the subfloor to give the hardwood flooring some protection against water and other moisture.
Floating hardwood floors are so appealing for primarily these reasons:
• They can be installed on many surfaces as long as the subfloor is flat and not exposed to a lot of moisture.
• They are far and away the most popular DIY floor. This has a lot to do with their relative ease of installation.
• They can be taken out or replaced minimal harm to the home if a new floor is needed.
• They offer a less costly installation.

Everybody has their own preferences and their own unique needs for particular flooring types. Some hardwood options work for some homes and not for others, but given the range of choices there are some that we really like and think would work well in most homes:
Wide Plank Hardwood –
This kind of wood has its own very special appeal to some homeowners. As the name implies wide plank hardwood is wider than what you traditionally, approximately 3-5 inches in difference. What wide plank hardwood flooring offer is the perspective of a larger space. Slimmer planks can make the space feel more constrained. In terms of aesthetics, wide planks are an older style. However, they can add a quaint feeling to any interior.
Distressed Hardwood –
With distressed hardwood, you get the elegance of modern wood flooring with the rustic appeal of the antique log cabin styling. Though distressed wood types can appear a little too dated in the wrong way, as in they were quite common in the 1970s, the modern day distressed wood flooring was quite popular and some customers might feel there’s a cliche attached to distressed hardwood, but that doesn’t have to be the case.
What should you look for in a good hardwood floor? As we have said, everybody has their own preferences, but durability is a major factor. No matter what choice of wood you make, you need to make sure that what you buy can stand the wear and tear brought about by walking around in shoes, or your child walking in their baseball cleats, or your dog running around playing fetch. Aesthetics and elegance go along way, but durability goes further, years further as a matter of fact. Call us today and be sure to check out the rest of our collection!
